Mudslides strand 1,200 in Nagano

Nagano — About 1,200 people including tourists and hotel employees spent the night cut off in the Kamikochi highland resort of Nagano Prefecture after massive mudslides shut down the only route in or out, prefectural officials said Friday.

After workers started clearing the mud blocking a prefectural road and a national road along the route, those stranded were able to leave the area in the afternoon.
