Possible North Korean defectors found off Japan coast

Japan’s coast guard says it has found an unidentified boat off the country’s western coast with nine possible North Korean defectors.

The coast guard says a local fisherman contacted officials early Tuesday after spotting the unfamiliar vessel in waters near the Noto peninsula.

The three men, three women and three children found on the wooden boat told coast guard officials they came from North Korea.
