Ayumi Hamasaki’s latest compilation album “A Classical” has topped the Oricon weekly album chart, selling 25,049 copies in its first week of sales.
The new compilation album featured many of the singer’s biggest hits, remixing them with a classical, orchestra instrumental. “A Classical” marks the first time a classical album has topped the Oricon album charts.
Ayu’s latest album is the 2nd classical album released by the singer. Her first, “My Story Classical”, only placed 4th on the Oricon album chart, selling 82,000 copies so far.
Hamasaki’s latest chart-topping album is her 19th career #1 album. She now ties with Seiko Matsuda as having the 2nd most #1 albums for a female artist. Yumi Matsutoya currently holds the record for female artists with the most #1 albums, amassing 22 throughout her career.
“A Classical” is the 3rd release in a series of 5 in celebration of Hamasaki’s 15th anniversary in April. The singer’s next release will be a new studio album titled “LOVE again”.
