Crown Prince Naruhito expressed hope Thursday that his trip to Spain from Monday will “help further promote bilateral exchanges that have a long history.”
During the official visit through June 16, the crown prince will attend a series of events to mark the 400th anniversary of bilateral exchanges since a mission was dispatched by Japanese feudal lord Date Masamune to Spain in 1613.
Crown Princess Masako, who is receiving treatment for a stress-induced illness, will not accompany him due to the tight schedule, the crown prince told a press conference. During the weeklong trip, he will visit five cities to attend many events.
