Japanese man arrested for throwing millions worth of yen onto highway

A Japanese man has been detained by police after scattering tens of thousands of pounds worth of bank notes across a busy highway in Japan.

The 49-year-old man was spotted by drivers throwing banknotes into the air while standing near an expressway tollbooth in Aichi prefecture.

Stacks of 10,000 yen notes – each worth an estimated £73 – were among the bills that the man was tossing towards the busy road during the incident.

Police arrived at the scene after one driver who witnessed the incident called emergency services to report that a man was throwing money across the Higashi-Meihan expressway.
