Ferries Return Home Izu Oshima Evacuees

Residents on the storm-battered island of Izu Oshima returned home on Monday after having been evacuated to Tokyo last Friday.

About 800 of the island’s 8,000-strong population had to leave their homes for fear of landslides after the the island was devastated by a typhoon on Oct 16. Most stayed in shelters on the island, while the elderly were taken to Tokyo. On Monday afternoon, ferries started bringing them back to the island.
