Tokyo Tap Water Deemed Safe, but radiation checks will continue

Tap water in Japan is unlikely to pose any further safety problem as long as the situation at the radiation-leaking Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant does not worsen, although continued checks would be needed for at least several months, the health ministry said in a draft report Monday.

The assessment was made as water samples from almost all of the ministry’s checkpoints have been free from radioactive substances since April.
