2 more ‘kidney donors’ revealed as Police nab 5 over organ trade

A 55-year-old clinic director allegedly involved in an organ trade was introduced to three prospective kidney donors by a gang member, according to investigative sources. Five people–including clinic director Toshinobu Horiuchi; gang member Kazuhisa Takino, 50; and Fumihiko Sakagami, 48, a former gang member who promised to donate his kidney to Horiuchi–were arrested Thursday on suspicion of conspiring to trade a kidney, a violation of the Organ Transplantation Law. Organ compatibility tests were conducted at Horiuchi’s clinic, and Sakagami was chosen from the three prospective donors, the sources said.

Doctor along with gangster face arrest on suspicion of illegal organ trade

Police said Thursday that they have requested arrest warrants for five people including a doctor and a former gangster on suspicion of having tried to illegally trade a kidney by faking an adoption.Conspiring with his wife, the doctor, 55, who suffers from kidney failure, attempted to buy a kidney that was to have been donated by the former gang member, 50, for 10 million yen, investigative sources said.The doctor also submitted a false document to a ward office with the aim of adopting the former gangster in order to qualify for a living- donor kidney transplant between family members, the sources said.
