Taking care of some overseas promotion, Johnny Depp was spotted at the premiere of his film “The Tourist” in Tokyo, Japan today March 3.The “Rango” actor showed up at Roppongi Hills Arena where he posed for the paparazzi along with director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck. According to a source, hundreds of fans waited in the frigid weather just to catch a glimpse of Depp at the event.And four lucky fans received a gift of traditional Japanese sweets from Johnny, who caused one of the winners to burst into tears when he hugged her.

Johnny Depp in 3D and in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland doubled Avatar’s opening day box office receipts in Japan, taking in more than 700 million yen, or about $7.6 million USD, on April 17th.
Johnny Depp’s role as the Mad Hatter undoubtedly helped draw in viewers; Depp’s films have had strong openings in Japan in the recent past, particularly Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, which brought in 992 million yen on its opening weekend, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, which had earned 1.47 billion yen during its first two days, eiga.com stated.
The Japanese media has attributed much of the comparable starting success of Alice over Avatar, which opened last December with first day earnings of approximately 370 million yen (about $4 million) according to Oricon, to both the number of screens and the film length. Alice in Wonderland debuted on 877 screens nationwide, of which 454 were 3D and 423 were regular, compared to Avatar’s 831 screens, made up of 373 3D and 423 regular.

America’s Sexiest Man Alive Johnny Depp made an amazing arrival into the Narita International Airport on December 8, 2009 in Narita, Chiba, Japan. Is it possible that Johnny has even more adoring fans in the East? I’m sure it would be a hefty competition!
The superstar is currently in Japan to promote his film Public Enemies co-starring Christian Bale. Over here in the United States, it was just released on DVD today but in Japan it will hit theaters on December 12th.
Depp is currently in “advanced negotiations” to star in Emir Kusturica’s upcoming Spanish-language biopic of the Mexican bandit and revolutionary hero Pancho Villa, entitled Seven Friends of Pancho Villa and the Woman With Six Fingers.
Though the script is complete, filming won’t be able to take place until 2011 because of Johnny’s prior commitments. Shooting would take him to Mexico for at least part of the movie
