Intel Plans to Equip Chips With USB 3.0 in 2012

Intel Corp disclosed that the company will equip its PC chipsets with the function of a USB 3.0 host controller in 2012.

Some forecast that Intel would embed the USB 3.0 host controller function in its chipsets in 2011. But it became clear that the company intends to introduce the function in 2012.

However, Renesas Electronics Corp and other companies have already started shipping their USB 3.0 host controller chips, and PC motherboard makers are beginning to ship motherboards using those chips. USB-IF, an industry group promoting the use of USB 3.0, intends to quickly expand the market by spreading the use of motherboards using existing host controller chips.
